Carolyn and Russ Shandrowski
Carolyn Shandrowski was a fourteen year, two-time survivor of ovarian cancer. Nine years ago, she and her husband founded Carolyn’s Pennies. Carolyn’s vision was initially to raise one million pennies to encourage others in the battle against this deadly form of cancer. She surpassed that target in the first year. Carolyn sadly lost her battle in March 2017. She will always be fondly remembered and esteemed for her love and charity.
Teal Tea is a fund of The Vicki Welsh Fund. The fund’s mission is to inform, support, and assist women in the fight against this silent killer. Carolyn and Russ worked with a team of dedicated volunteers in planning and hosting an annual charity event.
The Teal Tea
The Vicki Welsh Fund’s signature event is the Teal Tea. This year’s event brings together ovarian cancer survivors, their families, and friends for emotional and social support, while raising funds for the fight against ovarian cancer. Guests will appreciate an elegant afternoon tea, bid on a variety of silent auction items, participate in several exciting raffles, and enjoy a fascinating window into the history of American fashion as our models parade styles of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s! WDAF Fox 4 News Loren Halifax will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Registration is full as of April 10, 2017. We look forward to seeing everyone at this exciting event to be held on May 7, 2017.
Since its founding in 2008, Carolyn’s Pennies has raised over ninety thousand dollars to support its mission. We’re honored to be chosen as one of the Harvest Ball Society’s 2015 Charitable Recipients.
Founded in 1987 under the leadership of Patty Garney and Sandra Doolin Aust, the Harvest Ball Society has become the largest not-for-profit organization devoted to raising funds for charities serving causes primarily in the Northland. Proceeds from the Society’s events benefit programs and services that enrich, stabilize, and strengthen the lives of adults and children within our community.
Each year, the Harvest Ball Society designates 5 to 10 percent of its net proceeds for future needs. Spanning three decades, the Society has provided financial support to more than 60 charities.
We believe that we can make a difference in the lives of the women in our community. Please join us by making a financial contribution, by donating new items for the gift baskets prepared for the silent auction or raffles, or by volunteering for the event.
