In March 2004, Rosemary Salerno was named general manager of Zona Rosa, Kansas City’s urban town center at I-29 and Barry Road.
As general manager, she is responsible for supervising the daily operations and marketing for Zona Rosa, as well as overseeing the property management team and integrating Zona Rosa into the Northland community.
Prior to joining Zona Rosa, Salerno was general manager/marketing manager of Prime Outlets at Odessa, Mo., overseeing the property’s daily operations and marketing. She served as general manager/marketing manager at Prime Outlets at Odessa for nine years, beginning with the center’s grand opening in 1995.
Before Odessa, Salerno was assistant marketing director from 1992 to 1995 at Independence Center, a regional mall in Kansas City.
A lifelong Northlander, Salerno graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, majoring in communication studies with a minor concentration in music. In July 1992, Salerno was awarded a professional certificate in Legal Assistance from the same university.
In 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2014, Salerno was awarded Maxi Merit (Silver) Awards from the International Council of Shopping Centers for outstanding shopping center marketing efforts. In October, 2007, she was awarded the prestigious MAXI Gold award for the Return of the Fairy Princess at Zona Rosa. This was the first MAXI Gold award for the company and one of only twenty given out internationally by ICSC. In 2010, the Zona Rosa Community Foundation (now known as Olshan Outreach) was awarded the ICSC Foundation’s US Community Support Award – receiving not only the central region prize, but also the national award.
Salerno is an accomplished professional cellist and performs with a variety of groups, including the Vivace String Quartet. She also is a member of several community organizations including Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce (Treasurer & Executive Board Member), VisitKC (Board Member), Platte County Economic Development Council (2-Year Past Chair & Current Board Member), Northland Community Foundation (Board Member), Hillcrest Platte County (Chair), The Salvation Army Northland Advisory Council (Chair), Miles of Smiles (Chair), Northland Animal Welfare Society (Board Member), Vicki Welsh Fund (Board Member), Tri-County Mental Health (Board Member) and the International Council of Shopping Centers. In March, 2008, Salerno had the honor of being named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Kansas City by Kansas City Business Magazine. Additionally, Ms. Salerno has achieved the designations of Certified Retail Property Executive (CRX) Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM) and Certified Marketing Director (CMD) from the International Council of Shopping Centers.
