2006

  • Dave Welsh and Deb Grazda established the Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund at Spelman Medical Foundation
  • The Vicki Welsh Fund (VWF) advisory committee was formed
  • The ovarian cancer educational brochure “What Every Woman Needs to Know, Fighting Ovarian Cancer with Awareness” was published by the Vicki Welsh Fund and the Center for Women’s Care at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital 

2007

  • A three-year plan was adopted by the Vicki Welsh Fund advisory committee
  • Spelman Medical Foundation successfully raised funds to purchase new pelvic health diagnostic equipment. Dave Welsh, served as an auctioneer at one of the benefits
  • The Vicki Welsh Fund website was launched and the first Whisper Walk on-line registration was received
  • The third Annual Whisper Walk was held at Zona Rosa

2008

  • 2 part time health educators hired to inform Kansas City area women about the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer 
  • Educators and volunteers distributed more than 25,000 ovarian cancer educational brochures in the Kansas City area over the past two years
  • The fourth annual Whisper Walk had almost 1000 walkers

2009

  • Volunteers attended 12 community events to distribute information
  • Received Grant from Kansas City Royals Charities
  • Dave Welsh received the Buck O’Neil Legacy seat honorees’ award at the Royals game
  • Six Digital Billboards throughout the year posted the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer
  • The fifth annual Whisper Walk had over 1200 walkers

2010

  • The sixth annual Whisper Walk was held and attended by over 1800 walkers
  • Educational material was distributed at 13 community events

2011

  • Memo of Understanding signed between Founders and Spelman Medical Foundation Board
  • Established Medical Advisory Board
  • Gifted KU with the $10,000 research grant
  • Hired Community Educator
  • Public Service announcements aired highlighting September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
  • The seventh annual Whisper Walk was held and attended by over 2200 participants
  • Awarded scholarship to Gynecological/Oncology Fellowship candidate

2012

  • Gifted KU with the $10,000 research grant
  • Community Educator and volunteers attended over 20 community events and distributed over 16,000 educational items.
  • 50 Public Service announcements aired in September, November and December highlighting the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer
  • The eighth annual Whisper Walk was held and attended by over 2400 participants
  • Awarded scholarship to Gynecological/Oncology Fellowship candidate
  • Sponsored a CME event at St Luke’s Northland Hospital
  • Seven billboards sponsored in the KC metro region provided symptoms awareness information

2013

  • Became an independent nonprofit corporation
  • Received designation from IRS as a 501 (C)(3)
  • Recruited and organized founding community Board of Directors
  • Gifted KUMC with $20,000 grant for ovarian cancer research
  • Awarded scholarship to Gynecological/Oncology Fellowship candidate
  • The ninth annual Whisper Walk was held and attended by over 2000 participants
  • Ten billboards sponsored in the KC metro region provided symptoms awareness information
  • 40 Public Service announcements aired in September, November and December highlighting the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

  • Gifted KUMC with a $50,000 grant for ovarian cancer research
  • Awarded scholarships to two Gynecological/Oncology Fellowship candidates
  • The tenth annual Whisper Walk was held and attended by over 2000 participants
  • Ten billboards sponsored in the KC metro region provided symptoms awareness information
  • More than 40 Public Service announcements aired in September, November and December highlighting the symptoms of ovarian cancer
  • Volunteers attended nine community events and distributed educational items
  • Signs were placed on ten KC Metro buses providing symptoms awareness information
  • Symptom awareness ads were placed in HerLife magazine
  • No-Brainer Marketing was engaged to design the website and manage the social media
  • Voltage Creative will develop and host the marketing and web design
  • A Health Educator was engaged to implement and manage community awareness and professional education programs
  • The organization received approval for Missouri sales tax exemption
  • Carolyn’s Pennies distributed vouchers to be used by women with ovarian cancer to receive complimentary spa treatments
  • Carolyn’s Pennies donated $10,000 to the University of Kansas Hospital to provide support to ovarian cancer patients

2015

  • The eleventh annual Whisper Walk, which also included the first annual Whisper Run, was held and attended by over 2000 participants

  • More than 40 Public Service announcements aired in September highlighting the symptoms of ovarian cancer
  • Volunteers attended nine community events and distributed educational items
  • Symptom awareness ads were placed in HerLife magazine
  • Carolyn’s Pennies distributed vouchers to be used by women with ovarian cancer to receive complimentary spa treatments
  • The seventh annual Teal Tea was held and attended by over 300 participants
